The proceedings for Teresa Ann Black's trial, accused of murdering her son more than two decades ago, unravel within a DeKalb County courtroom. Prosecutors showed her 2022 police interview, in which she tearfully admitted to lying about her son's whereabouts following his death. Her son, previously unidentified for years and known only as "John Clifton Doe," was discovered near an Atlanta cemetery in 1999. It wasn't until a reconstructed image of the boy circulated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children prompted a tip from a North Carolina woman, who recognized the child as Black’s son. Evidence led authorities to Black in Arizona, who then was extradited to Georgia to stand trial, evidence that leads authorities to Black was in Arizona where she's extradited to Georgia, to face trial as reported by Hoodline in their coverage.
Black's account of that night altered drastically throughout the investigation, originally claiming she had entrusted her son to an Atlanta homeless shelter because she was unable to care for him, accusations that she adamantly denied even when confronted with evidence to the contrary. When she finally confessed to the truth during the police interrogation, witnesses were quick to testify that Black had been deceptive about her son's fate after his passing.
Jury selection began on January 2 for this case where Black, now 46, faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole on multiple charges including felony murder and cruelty to children witnesses testified that Black had been deceptive about her son's whereabouts after his death, testimony resumes Friday.
