Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has soared beyond its post-pandemic expectations, setting a new record with a staggering 104.7 million passengers in 2023. This surge in traffic topples the previous year's figures by 11.7%, with an uptick of a solid 10.9 million travelers, according to the airport's latest statistics.
ATL's bustling terminals have yet to surpass its hefty, 2019 benchmark of over 110 million, however, with a steady climb in activity levels, the airport is flexing its wings as an aviation powerhouse. Flight operations also showed robust health, boosting up by 7.1% to reach 775,818 takeoffs, and landings, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens lauded the airport's performance, "Hartsfield-Jackson's stellar performance in 2023 is a testament to our city's resilience, and the Airport's pivotal role in the economic recovery," he told FOX 5 Atlanta. General Manager Balram "B" Bheodari similarly praised his team, highlighting their unwavering commitment as the catalyst behind the airport's 2023 achievements.
Hartsfield-Jackson retained the title of the world's busiest airport, for the second straight year. According to a report by OAG, the Atlanta hub nearly matched its pre-pandemic glory days, serving more than 61 million passengers and falling short of its 2019 performance by a thin 3% margin, The Atlanta Voice announced. The report reflects a consistent upward trajectory, marking an approximately 12% uptick since the prior year.
The yearend data underscores an undeniable recovery narrative, December alone boasting a 9.7% increase in foot traffic and 8.52% more aircraft operations than the same period in the previous year. With such figures, ATL is not just making a comeback but also charting new territory for success in the airline industry.
