Austin rang in a day of collective contemplation and community commitment on Sunday, hosting the 2024 National Day of Racial Healing. In the spirit of unity, the event, which precedes Martin Luther King Jr. Day, drew locals to dive deep into tough discussions around race and discrimination.
The Austin Justice Coalition and the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health teamed up to preside over the event, held at the Northeast Early College High School. The gathering ran from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m, offering a slate of activities designed to foster healing and understanding at no cost to participants. "Attendees can expect healing discussions on the critical issues of racism, bias, inequity, and injustice, as well as an event that both enlightens and empowers, as we explore the intersections of race and well-being," the Austin Justice Coalition said, according to KXAN.
The push for racial healing in Austin has gained significant traction, with local leaders at the helm of the movement. Dr. J from the Austin Justice Coalition provided insight into the significance of the day's events for the community, as reported by KVUE.
