Austin Community College District (ACC) is ushering in the Lunar New Year with a festive celebration scheduled for February 10, rooted in the vibrant traditions of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The college has extended an open invitation to students, staff, faculty, and the public to join the free festivities, which are set to take place at the ACC Northridge Lecture Hall.

The event is a cultural mosaic put together by the ACC's Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultural Center. Attendees will be treated to the visual spectacle of the Texas Dragon/Lion Dance Team, the rhythmic graces of QiLi Dance Studio, and the harmonious melodies of traditional Guqin and Pipa players Heather Couture and Qifang Hu, respectively. Furthermore, a Tai Chi demonstration by Aiping Tai Chi is on the roster, promising a showing of the balance between motion and serenity, according to Austin Community College District.

Those interested in joining the Lunar New Year Festival can register their attendance online prior to the event. The celebration, which will take place from 1 to 2 p.m., promises to be both an educational and entertaining showcase of the AAPI community's rich cultural tapestry, as per  Austin Community College District.

The Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival in some cultures, is celebrated by over one billion people across the globe in countries such as China, Korea, and Vietnam. Marked by the second new moon after the winter solstice and typically falling between late January and mid-February, the festivities carry on for approximately 15 days.
