Amidst the biting cold snap in Austin, Texas, the local community has rallied to provide warmth and shelter for animals in need. Austin Pets Alive! (APA!), an animal shelter in the area, has seen an outstanding wave of emergency fosters offering refuge to pets at risk due to plummeting temperatures. The shelter shared an urgent call for assistance last week as 230 dogs were in dire need of temporary housing away from the harsh weather, according to CBS Austin.
APA's call to action has not gone unheard. Given the shelter was facing an emergency situation, the rapid response was impressive because the community's fosters and adopters stepped up when they were needed most. "We've found warm homes for 175 dogs housed in outdoor kennels, meaning just 55 remain at the shelter," APA! announced on Monday, per Austin Pets Alive Facebook page.
In an admirable display of dedication, APA!'s staff and volunteers have been working tirelessly, even staying overnight to protect and care for the animals remaining at the shelter. "Our dedicated staff and volunteers stayed overnight with our animals to ensure they were warm and safe during the freezing temperatures," APA! said, as stated in CBS Austin.
