Austin Energy has found itself in hot water after a series of power outages left residents in the dark and waiting for answers. The utility company scrambled to address the problem amidst rapidly dropping temperatures and resident Jennifer Walker was among those left hanging. She struggled with Austin Energy's online system during the outage, receiving error messages when attempting to report the power loss, as per KXAN.

Eventually, after approximately four hours, Austin Energy acknowledged the issue via a text message alert. However, by that time, residents like Walker had already been feeling the chill of a house without heat. In a separate incident, Kate Austin, a neighbor of Walker, managed to report the outage but also experienced delays in receiving updates, sharing that her husband only got text messages long after their power was disrupted.

Compounding an energy crisis, Austin's mayor issued a sobering apology. Mayor Kirk Watson admitted on Friday the city's inadequate response to the widespread electric outages that had persisted for three days, leaving around 115,000 customers in the cold and causing business and school closures. He promised change and acknowledged the public's "absolutely warranted" frustration over the city's recurring communication failures during emergencies, according to a Austin American Statesman

In the meantime, as Austin Energy's General Manager Jackie Sargent reported, over 100 crews were out in force endeavoring to restore power throughout the city. Despite her cautious optimism due to lessening tree falls as temperatures thawed, the company had yet to offer a concrete timeline for when all services would resume to normalcy, reported by Austin American Statesman
