In the early hours of Monday, crews feverishly worked to douse the flames. According to the Austin Fire Department, these fires likely stemmed from the larger fireworks that "are extremely hot and can easily ignite." The Austin Fire Department' warned residents to "use caution when disposing of fireworks." The caution was prompted by several fires that the crews had to quickly extinguish across the city.
A photo accompanying the fire department's report depicts one such dumpster, its contents ablaze, the smoke billowing into the air. CBS Austin reported on the fire department's busy night showing the aftermath of improper disposal of pyrotechnics.
The message to the public was clear: "While we appreciate the effort to hide the evidence, or clean up, whichever the case may be, use caution when disposing of fireworks," the Fire Department stated.
