The Austin Humane Society has stepped in to assist in a large-scale rescue, taking in 13 chihuahua mixes from a situation where over 50 dogs were found living in less-than-ideal conditions in Comanche County, according to a report by CultureMap Austin.
The dogs, which ranged from a tender age of 10 weeks to a mature 6 years old, were found living outdoors or crammed into vehicles on the property, enduring flea infestations and bearing minor skin issues but otherwise, they were in decent health. In a rehabilitation effort, the Austin Humane Society is now conducting thorough medical evaluations on the chihuahua mixes.
The Humane Society has announced that the adoption fees are set at $100 for adult dogs and a steeper $300 price tag for the puppies, which is detailed further in a story by CBS Austin.
The fees cover all the basic needs for these dogs starting anew - they will be sterilized, microchipped, and dewormed; they will be vaccinated, so prospective adopters can rest assured that these rescues are prepared for a second shot at life in a loving home. The Austin Humane Society ensures each dog gets a fair chance at happiness and health. As these little chihuahua mixes await their forever homes, the hope is that this unfortunate circumstance can transform into a new beginning for each canine and a joyous occasion for adoptive families eager to support the humane society's mission.
