An Austin denizen has officially claimed a Lotto Texas jackpot worth $34 million. Purchased at the local H-E-B grocery at 7025 Village Center Drive, the winning ticket nailed all six numbers in the Dec. 30 draw. This haul makes the winner the owner of the seventh-largest prize , as per KXAN.
Choosing the cash option, the winner took home a gargantuan $20,205,534.60 before taxes. The lottery officials mentioned earlier this month that the jackpot remained unclaimed, with 180 days from the draw date to step forward. Now, with the prize claimed as of Jan. 29, the search for the mysterious winner is over, according to KVUE.
The sheer magnitude of local lottery wins is nothing short of mind-bending. Just in October 2019, a Leander resident netted an Austin-area record of over $150 million—the second-largest in all of Texas. Lotto Texas requires players to match all six numbers to win, with draws occurring three times weekly, as reported by KXAN.
With myriad lottery games available, from Powerball to scratch tickets like Gold Rush, Texans continue to try their luck. Not to be forgotten, claimed by an upstanding Austin citizen, a $3 million scratch ticket win in December, and later that month, a $2 million Powerball ticket was also sold in the city, as stated in KVUE.
