The once-beloved Zilker Eagle Mini Train in Austin, Texas, is gearing up for a comeback after years of setbacks and a storm-induced hiatus, with the Austin Parks Foundation sharing an update on three freshly renovated cars that are set to join the fleet, according to KVUE.
Austin's cherished rail attraction, out of service since May 2019 due to erosion from severe weather, has been missed by locals with the city entrusting the Austin Parks Foundation to breathe new life into it despite their initial lack of experience with miniature train operations, "The first one I ever rode, I was about 10 years old maybe, it was really exciting," Fred Britton fondly recalling the days when the train was a staple of family outings in the area, as stated in KUT News.
After a rocky journey which saw issues from the foundation buying a nonfunctional train from a now-defunct company to the tune of almost $365,000, the Zilker Eagle is now seeing tangible progress with newly updated features, including enhanced lighting, modern air brakes, and wiring, as revealed on the train's Facebook page, these enhancements aimed to ensure both safety and enjoyment for the trains' future passengers, as reported by KVUE.
