Two men have been charged in the fatal shooting of Oakland Police Officer Tuan Le, authorities announced Wednesday. Mark Sanders, 27, and Allen Brown, 28, are the primary suspects in the case, according to a statement by Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price obtained by NBC Bay Area. Officer Le was responding to a reported burglary at a cannabis dispensary when he was ambushed and shot multiple times last Friday.
The arrests came after an intensive manhunt over the New Year's weekend. Sanders was apprehended Tuesday in Livermore, while Brown was taken into custody Sunday in Chico. Interim Oakland Police Chief Darren Allison reported that Le's handcuffs were used to detain one of the suspects, signaling a poignant twist in the aftermath of the officer's death, per CHP Headquarters X post. Sanders faces the possibility of life without parole, as he is charged with murder with special circumstances. Brown is also charged with murder for purportedly being an accomplice to the lethal attack on Le.

"He will be remembered for his kindness, his smile, and the positive change he brought to the lives of those around him. He is a true hero who dedicated his life to making our community safer," the OPD stated in a press release about Officer Le, according to Hoodline.
Additionally, Sebron Ray Russell is alleged to have taken part in the burglaries preceding Officer Le’s tragic killing, as announced by the Alameda County District Attorney during a press conference. This complex case has gripped Oakland, with the community coming together to mourn and honor the life of Officer Le. Mayor Sheng Thao expressed her condolences and assured swift action to hold those responsible to account. The details surrounding Russell’s involvement were shared via an Oakland Police Department update on Facebook.
The death of Officer Le has sparked statewide support, with police departments across California extending their sympathies to the Oakland Police Department and Le's family. As the investigation continues, local traffic disruptions are in effect, with Embarcadero and nearby ramps from Interstate Highway 880 impacted.
