Bostonians, brace for a mishmash of snow, sleet, and rain this week as the city trudges through another New England winter spectacle. The National Weather Service forecasts a high near 37 today with increasing clouds and subtle breezes to shake the barren limbs of city trees.
The city will see cloudy skies tonight before they clear a bit. Temperatures will hang low, around 31 degrees, and winds will pick up, gusting as high as 22 mph, reports the National Weather Service. After a slightly warmer day on Tuesday with highs in the upper 30's, Boston will confront its first bout of wintry mix come evening. The chances for snow and sleet before 10 p.m. rise to 60%, with a likely transition to snow through the night.
As Bostonians prep for the Wednesday morning rush, they'll be met with probable snow before noon, then a rain possibility as temperatures peak at 39 degrees. "Wednesday morning could easily be a slippery commute as temperatures will be hovering near freezing," NBC Boston advises, highlighting the need for commuters to exercise caution.
Thursday throws a steady rain into the equation, with the likelihood of precipitation hitting 80%. "Right on the tail of this system is another that enters, that will bring rain Thursday into Friday." NBC Boston warns, signaling no respite from the soggy conditions. The end of the workweek could offer a brief respite with high temperatures in the low 50's, as a warm front rolls in, washing away the frosty edge of a typical Bostonian January.
A glance at the weekend promises a break from the atmospheric assaults with partly sunny skies and more bearable highs inching toward the upper 40's. But, the city isn’t out of winter’s woods quite yet with temperatures dipping again Saturday night, near the freezing mark.
