An armed career criminal was brought to heel carrying a loaded high-capacity firearm in Roxbury, law enforcement officials reported. The Boston Police Department (BPD) alongside the FBI Metro Boston Gang Unit clamped down on Tony Evans, a 33-year-old Boston man with previous convictions, during a targeted sweep last Thursday afternoon.
Haunting the streets of Roxbury, Evans, whose history is marred with violence and persistent criminal activity, now faces a slew of charges, including the unlawful possession of a high-capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm on a public way, and possession with intent to distribute. An unnamed 35-year-old female, caught up in the same dragnet, will be summoned to court facing related charges, as detailed on the official BPD news release.
The takedown took place around 2:38 PM after officers executed a Roxbury District Court Search Warrant against both individuals. Moments before the arrest, officers observed Evans and the female companion as they entered a vehicle on Hammond Street. Upon their approach, officers immediately detected the high-capacity Taurus TH40C firearm laying in plain view, casting its shadow over the city's struggle with gun violence.
Evans' residence afterwards, where officers uncovered 17 plastic bags of marijuana weighing a hefty 2.4 pounds along with a cache of United States currency, was searched meticulously. Representatives of the law have expressed decisive measures in tracking and detaining individuals such as Evans, a man whose criminal pedigree is a known quantity to the streets he once walked with such illicit empowerment, according to Boston Police Department.
