Violence marred the New Year celebration in Boston, as an early morning shooting in Dorchester resulted in the tragic death of a man. According to Boston 25 News, Boston Police Department officers were called to the scene at 34 High Street around 5:30 a.m., where they discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound.
The wounded man was hastily transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the name of the victim has yet to be disclosed until the next of kin are notified. WHDH reported that the shooting occurred in the dark predawn hours and police arrived at the grim scene to find the male victim with life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is now in the hands of Boston police's homicide unit. Details surrounding the shooting remain scarce, as authorities have not yet arrested any suspects, nor have they commented on the motive or circumstances leading up to the incident.
Footage from the scene depicted a closed-off area, striped with crime scene tape as officers along with a Boston police K9 unit, firefighters assisted in the early stage of the investigation. Police have indicated that they will release more information during the investigation.
