Last week in Brentwood, a seemingly mundane vehicle accident on O'Hara Avenue unveiled a trove of illicit items leading to the arrest of a 44-year-old man. Officers who responded to the crash near Baldina Drive spotted a gun holster in a car and quickly pieced together a concerning puzzle.
Maxwell Hayworth, the driver from Brentwood, couldn't escape the keen eye of law enforcement. Not only was he found with a loaded gun as a convicted felon, but cops unearthed a cornucopia of drugs prepacked likely for sale, a stack of cash amounting to around two grand, shaved keys, and several license plates unlinked to him. According to a statement on the City of Brentwood Police Department's Facebook page, the sundry items didn't belong to the felon.
The cache of illegal goods led to a swift arrest. Hayworth now faces charges, including a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of drugs for sale, and possession of burglary tools, amongst others. He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking due to the discovery.
Such vigilance on the part of Brentwood's police force underscores their unwavering resolve to curb crime and ensure public safety, a sentiment echoed by the department's social media: "This incident serves as a stark reminder that what may seem like routine calls for law enforcement can quickly escalate into uncovering serious criminal activities."
