The landscape of Bridgeland has gained a fresh addition to its green sprawl with the dedication of a new park, named in honor of the community's esteemed former superintendent, Mark Henry. Bridgeland officials declared on January 18 that a 1-acre park will bear the name of the retired Cy-Fair ISD leader who helmed the district's schools for a dozen years before stepping down in 2023.

Located neatly adjacent to Wells Elementary School, Sprague Middle School, and Bridgeland High School, Dr. Mark Henry Park is poised to quickly become a hub for community activity and student life. Ensuring its potential to swiftly to serve as a conduit for students walking to school, the park has been strategically situated along Parkland Common, a 1-mile linear park system designed for maximum connectivity within the suburban landscape. “We are honored to dedicate one of Bridgeland’s parks to such a beloved resident and leader within our community,” Jim Carman, president of the Houston region for Howard Hughes, told Community Impact.

A resident of Bridgeland himself, Henry oversaw two major bond programs that financed the construction of five new schools in the community, among them the ones now neighboring the park sharing his name. The development of the park, introduced by Howard Hughes Holdings Inc., the mastermind behind the Bridgeland community, embodies their vision of cultivating spaces that promote both educational and recreational synergy.

Adding to the community's accolades, Dr. Mark Henry, reflecting on his tenure, expressed gratitude in a statement reported by the Houston Chronicle: "Having the opportunity to serve the CFISD community these past 12 years has been an immense honor,” and voiced eagerness along with his wife, Cindy, to continue calling this neighborhood home. Carman stated, "It is our vision that Dr. Mark Henry Park will serve as a gathering spot and place for imaginative play for our residents and provide safe connections for students walking to school for years to come,"

Dr. Mark Henry Park located at 19611 Edwards Limestone Way in Cypress, the park now serves as both a commemorative landmark and a verdant refuge for residents and students alike. More information on Bridgeland and the park can be found on their website.
