
A standoff in Cambridge that began early yesterday afternoon ended peacefully after police took a man into custody following an hourslong stalemate. The Cambridge Police Department surrounded a Fenno Street home after receiving a call at 1:30 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute, the situation escalating as officers believed the individual inside could be armed. Residents in the vicinity were evacuated as a cautionary measure, the police utilizing an armored rescue vehicle to shield themselves and bystanders. The standoff concluded with no injuries reported.
After a tense afternoon, police were able to locate and apprehend the suspect. "UPDATE: CPD just located the subject inside the home and our teams were able to take him into custody without incident," announced the Cambridge Police Department via Facebook. No other individuals were reported to be inside the house at the time of the crisis. While waiting out the standoff, the anxious community was reassured by the presence of the law enforcement's protective gear.
The Cambridge Police Department's Facebook post offered details of the event, while urging patience: "ORIGINAL POST: Cambridge Police Department has been on Fenno Street since 1:30 p.m. after responding to a call for a domestic dispute. We are working to find an individual inside a home who may be armed. There are no other people inside the home. Out of an abundance of caution, we asked people in the immediate vicinity to leave their homes so we could safely resolve the issue."
As the standoff unfolded, the police department relayed updates to the public via their social media channels, emphasizing the nonviolent resolution of the event. "There are no injuries. We appreciate your patience as we take these measures to resolve the incident," shared the department on Facebook. Following the successful deescalation, residents displaced by the day's events were told they would soon be allowed to return to their homes.
