The confrontation took place at the intersection of Shallowford Rd. and Dresden Drive in the early hours of January 20, as captured by surveillance video.
The calamity unfolded when the driver who was rear-ended, identified as Alex Bane, decided to not just confront but to aggressively open fire at the driver who bumped into his car. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the driver was trying to leave the scene when Bane fired 12 shots from a 9mm handgun at the retreating vehicle. Remarkably, no one was struck by the gunfire, though the vehicle sustained bullet damage.
Chamblee Police tapped into their Flock License Plate Reader System to identify both the vehicles involved in this fracas. Bane's car was located parked at the Quality Inn on Northeast Expressway. Detailed police surveillance enabled the arrest of Bane on Jan. 23, as mentioned by WSB-TV. Apart from local charges, he was wanted on an active arrest warrant for a firearms violation in Pennsylvania.
In the aftermath, Bane faces multiple charges including aggravated assault with a weapon, criminal damage to property, and illegal possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. The infamy of his actions quickly permeated the community, stirring unrest and concern. "Makes me worried about the neighborhood that we live in and the police presence because this is a very busy intersection," Jonathan Rasmussen, a local resident, told FOX 5. Bane is currently held at the DeKalb County Jail as he awaits extradition.
