Round Rock's Chisholm Trail is set for a full-day shutdown on January 31, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., from Sunset Drive to RM 620, the city announced. The closure will make way for contractors to install new signage on the pedestrian bridge, a key component of the Heritage Trail West project poised to enrich the community with historical and recreational features.
The ambitious Heritage Trail West project aims to construct a continuous, approximately 1-mile trail linking Chisholm Trail Road to Mays Street, it will not only bolster several local parks but also introduce an overlook near Brushy Creek, with the completion slate set for mid-2024. The design concept of the bridge serves to create continuity between the Round Rock of yesteryear when it facilitated the crossing of wagons, and its present as a dynamic city with rich historical roots.
This initiative has been designed to provide a sneak peek into Round Rock’s past while furnishing the community with new spots for leisure and learning. Besides the new pedestrian bridge, operational by mid-year, residents will have the pleasure of viewing the city's namesake "round rock" from designated platforms, offering a safer point of passage over Chisholm Trail Road and Brushy Creek.
Parallel to this, the Lake Creek Trail is underway, buoyed by the May 2023 G.O. Bonds voted affirmative by the public, the trail is expected to feature a 10-foot-wide path that stretches from Round Rock West Park to Centennial Plaza, and it will also include a pedestrian underpass at IH-35 along with a bridge crossing Lake Creek, among other amenities that promise to bolster the city's outdoor infrastructure.
