A new era is set to be served up in the City, as the groundbreaking ceremony for the much-anticipated Bob Day Tennis Complex has been officially scheduled for Friday, Jan. 12, at 9 a.m. Tennis fans can look forward to an expansive array of facilities that goes well beyond the baseline of park amenities, according to the City of Garland.
Positioned within the sprawling 62.5-acre Tuckerville Park at 1801 State Highway 66, the tennis complex is poised to transform the local sports landscape, the plan includes not only a 3,700-square-foot pro shop but also 12 tennis courts which will feature two premier courts with terraced seating for fans to catch every volley and smash in comfort. Furthermore, patrons can expect a spectator pavilion, food truck bays for a diverse dining experience, and picnic areas for family-friendly recreation. To ensure secure and enjoyable experiences for all visitors, the complex will be outfitted with perimeter fencing, and for those evening matches and sessions, the courts will be illuminated with both site and court lighting.
Accessibility is a key factor in the design of the new complex, with the inclusion of sidewalks and trail connections to adjacent neighborhoods, ensuring the facility is an integral part of the community fabric. The project is expected to unfold throughout 18 to 20 months – a timeline that anticipates an opening day sometime mid to late 2025. In attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony will be distinguished guests such as former Mayor Dr. Bob Day, whose contributions to the city will be commemorated through this development, and descendants of the Tucker family, entwining the city's heritage with its athletic endeavors. Convenient parking for the event will be made available at Micropac Industries Inc., located at 1655 State Highway 66.
