The San Diego community is mourning the loss of one of its residents following a tragic accident in Lemon Grove. The county Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim of Monday's fatal crash as Harold Hooker, a 67-year-old man from the area.
Hooker was driving his minivan on the 1600 block of Lemon Grove Avenue around 5:30 p.m., when he struck a "large piece of concrete debris" on the road, reported Times of San Diego. His vehicle veered off the street and went up an embankment, then collided with a utility pole before overturning.
First responders found Hooker unconscious and unresponsive inside his overturned vehicle. Despite efforts to save him, the paramedics pronounced Hooker dead at the scene of the accident. The incident occurred as another motorist, also traveling in the same direction earlier, hit the same concrete obstruction and managed to pull over and call 911 for help, according to details from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
The tragic circumstances leading to Hooker's death painted a harsh picture of the perils lurking on seemingly familiar roads. Emergency crews arrived shortly after a second 911 call was made, immediately initiating "cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts." However, their attempts at resuscitation were ultimately futile.
