A Concord pedestrian is fighting for their life after a hit-and-run incident early Monday morning left them with serious injuries. Concord Police Department officials are piecing together the events that led to the pedestrian being struck by a car on Clinton Street, between Langley Parkway and Norwich Street, just before the crack of dawn, around 5:00 a.m. Despite wearing a high-visibility vest, the pedestrian, who was walking eastward on Clinton Street, was hit and found suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to a report by Boston 25 News.
Authorities stated the victim was promptly taken to Concord Hospital before being transferred to a Boston hospital for further treatment. Concord Police mentioned that the vehicle involved did not stop after the collision and continued east towards South Street. The suspect's car is believed to be a 2015 to 2017 Volkswagen Jetta, Concord Police described the vehicle's passenger side mirror which should have been missing after the crash, this detail was shared by Boston 25 News. Tips about the crash can be directed to the Concord Police Department at the number 603-225-8600.
"Concord is pretty good at taking care of the sidewalks, but at 4:30 a.m. after a long storm like that, I wouldn't expect it to be totally clean," said Peter Champagne, a regular walker in the area, as quoted in a statement obtained by WMUR.
Deputy Chief John Thomas underscored the dangers of walking alongside snow-covered roads, saying, "If you are doing that, you have to take care. You have to wear a high-visible type of clothing so the vehicles that are approaching you do see you." He noted in an interview with WMUR that the victim appeared to be doing everything right given the weather conditions. Fortunately, the recovery of the vehicle's mirror at the scene enabled police to track down the vehicle and the alleged driver, "It is currently obviously still under investigation, but we have identified the vehicle and the operator at this time," Thomas added.
The current status of the pedestrian's condition has not been updated, and as of now, no charges have been disclosed against the driver in connection with the crash. This story is an ongoing investigation, and more details will be provided as they are uncovered.
