Cotati Police Department officers, spotting a vehicle code violation, tried to flag down a driver, but the signal set off a desperate flight, as revealed in a Facebook post by the department.
The attempted stop turned chase unfurled around 1:40 AM, when the suspect's vehicle gunned it, weaving into the wrong-way traffic on East Cotati Avenue—its headlights extinguished in a brazen move that endangered countless lives. However, officers broke off pursuit to prevent any tragedy. Their vigilance, however, kept the rogue vehicle in sight, maintaining updates to their dispatch with the aid of their Rohnert Park counterparts and Sonoma State University Police.
Even with law enforcement treading cautiously, the driver barreled into a Rohnert Park cul-de-sac, ditching the still-rolling car, which clumsily came to rest after an intimate encounter with a local's mailbox. The suspect didn't surrender easily; a backyard became the final stage for the chase as officers finally cornered the man, and subsequently, a female accomplice was also tracked down nearby.
