Dallas Cowboys icon Michael Irvin has found himself under the lens of Allen police as they investigate an undisclosed allegation of misconduct. The Hall of Famer and familiar face on NFL broadcasts is contending with the scrutiny despite the nature of the allegations remaining shrouded in mystery.
Sergeant Jonathan Maness confirmed that Allen police are indeed probing "an allegation" against Irvin, albeit offering scant details, saying the investigation is "in its very early stages." Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Allen Police Department declined to reveal any specifics, stating, "It’s very early in the investigation" and that they "aren’t prepared to release any classification regarding Mr. Irvin", as per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
This latest inquiry comes on the heels of a previously settled $100 million defamation lawsuit that Irvin launched against Marriott and others, in connection to an incident involving a female hotel employee in Arizona. He had accused them of defamation and tortious interference in a business relationship after she alleged that he made lewd and inappropriate comments in a hotel lobby last February. Two individuals came forward in a press conference to claim that Irvin's behavior did not seem inappropriate, according to Kera News.
Irvin's attorney, Levi McCathern, has come out swinging in defense of his client, insisting on his innocence. "No idea what a specific allegations might be," McCathernsaid, "I have talked to Michael and I can assure you that he has done nothing wrong. Truly sad that he keeps having to deal with things like this." McCathern, previously predicted to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk that these new allegations "will turn out to be much ado about nothing", per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The current state of affairs closely trails the debacle that saw Irvin pulled from the NFL Network's Super Bowl coverage last year, following the sexual misconduct claim. The lawsuit, initially filed in Collin County, was eventually withdrawn and refiled in Arizona in March.
