A Dallas teenager faces murder charges in the shooting death of his intermittent girlfriend, after discovering he was not the father of her child, authorities say. Trevon Wright, 17, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and is being held at Dallas County Jail. The deceased girl, Lancaster High School junior Ikea Hood, was found with a gunshot wound at a residence on Grambling Drive in Southeast Oak Cliff, where the fatal incident occurred last Sunday morning, according to FOX 4 News.
An arrest affidavit that Wright was in a fluctuating relationship with Hood, who had given birth just three weeks before her death and had discovered Wright was not the biological father of her newborn. With intentions to inform him of the truth, her mother's account to the police documents how the day tragically unfolded, revealing Hood's planned conversation with Wright on that ill-fated day. Dallas police have disclosed neither the specifics of Wright's apprehension nor details regarding the recovery of the suspected murder weapon.
Hood's mother heard a noise, discovered her bedroom door locked, and then accessed the room from the outside to find her daughter fatally wounded. Hood and Wright, who have a history punctuated by domestic violence, were involved in a rocky teen romance, said relatives in their urge to raise awareness on the perils of domestic abuse. Hood's sister implored others in similar situations to "leave and talk to somebody and get the help", as per WFAA.
Lancaster High School, where Hood was a part of the Tigerette Dance Team, is offering counseling services to students and staff coping with the loss, a statement released by Lancaster Independent School District officials expressed deep sorrow emphasizing Hood's untimely passing as "a great loss" for the community, with a balloon release in her honor scheduled for Wednesday evening. To support Hood's family with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been established, drawing communal support in the wake of the tragedy, per WFAA.
