A Danville man faced a judge in Contra Costa Superior Court today on serious assault charges. Kevin Hu Xu, 24, is accused of attacking his estranged father with a deadly weapon and is staring down the barrel of a multi-year prison sentence if convicted of the felonies he's charged with.

According to Contra Costa County officials, the assault occurred on January 20 when Xu, wielding a weapon, allegedly struck his father multiple times following a confrontation on Glasgow Circle. The father, who has expressed a fear of his son due to previous erratic behavior, attempted to flee but was pursued and assaulted by Xu. The charges don't stop there; Xu is also looking at misdemeanors for his resistance during his arrest the following day and battery and aggravated trespassing relating to an earlier incident this month.

The earlier confrontation happened on January 8, when Xu reportedly refused a neighbor's request to leave the vicinity of some trash receptacles, following them into their garage instead. The neighbor and another family member thwarted the attempted home invasion.

As it stands, Xu remains behind bars at the Martinez Detention Facility, his bail set at $117,000. The weight of the allegations could saddle him anywhere from 2 to 7 years in the state pen if the court finds him guilty on all counts.
