An 8-year-old boy in Decatur, miraculously found safe after a harrowing few hours, had parents and authorities on high alert when he was reported missing on a Monday chase after a canine companion. Identified as Steven McBride, the youngster had vanished around 11:30 a.m., setting off a frantic search that spanned several hours, according to Atlanta News First.
The initial police report indicated that young Steven was last spotted fleeing his family home near the 1900 block of Rosewood Road, presumably in pursuit of the dog. The DeKalb County Police Department disseminated an alert around 2 p.m, saying he headed into the intersection of Candler and McAfee roads. The boy's description put him at 4-feet-7-inches tall, 75 pounds, sporting a dark gray shirt, black pants, and red and black shoes, as noted in an article by FOX 5 Atlanta.
At approximately 3 p.m. that same day, relief washed over the community when the DeKalb County Police Department announced the boy had been found unharmed and safe. The specifics of how and where the child was located have not yet been disclosed by the police department.
Authorities had urged anyone with information or who spotted him to immediately dial 911 or to reach out to the Special Victims Unit. Fortunately, before the sun had set on this potentially tragic tale, a resolution came swiftly, and Steven McBride was returned to his home. The prompt action by the DeKalb County Police and the local community illustrates a beacon of hope as they banded together in the search for the missing child.
