In a verdict that has shaken Denton County, Sabrina Ho has been convicted of the heinous Capital Murder of her 7-year-old son, Phoenix. On January 22, the jury handed down an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole. In a chilling revelation, additional convictions included four counts of Injury to a Child causing bodily injury and one count each of Injury to a Child by Omission and Injury to a Child causing serious bodily injury, as confirmed by the Denton County Criminal District Attorney's Office.
The tragic narrative unfolded when the Denton Fire Department was to swiftly respond on April 1, 2022, to deliver critical aid to Phoenix, who had suffered multiple severe injuries over an extended period. With details to downright turn one's stomach shared during the trial, the jury sentenced Ho to life imprisonment on the serious bodily injury counts and 10 years in prison for each of the bodily injury charges, on top of a $10,000 fine for every Injury to a Child count.
Witness testimony during the trial painted a harrowing picture of the abuse Phoenix endured, with experts labeling the brutalities as some of the most extreme they've encountered in their careers. The investigation was a concerted effort involving Denton PD, particularly SVU Detectives Scott Salazar and Samy Sanchez, with additional support from Homeland Security investigators. The prosecution team consisted of ADAs Lindsey Sheguit, Rick Daniel, and Dustin Gossage, with Emily Chilivetis providing further assistance.
Visibly solid teamwork paved the way for the pursuit of justice, featuring Chief DA Investigator Mike Sparby and Victim’s Assistance Coordinator Dr. Beverly Bailey. The District Attorney’s Office expressed gratitude towards law enforcement partners for their meticulous efforts in the investigation. The outcome speaks to the dedication and resolve of all involved, ensuring to finally secure the full weight of justice for Phoenix.
The Denton County DA’s Office commended the jury for their commitment, saying, "We are thankful for the jury’s diligence in reviewing the evidence presented at trial and that justice was obtained for Phoenix." In the end, Sabrina Ho's fate is sealed by the irrefutable evidence of her unconscionable crimes against her child, forever imprinted on the conscience of a community now mourning the loss of an innocent life.
