Tragedy struck in the desolate stretches of San Bernardino County's desert where the grim discovery of six deceased individuals sparked a homicide investigation. CBS Los Angeles reported that a welfare check prompted by a call around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday led San Bernardino County deputies to an area off Highway 395 in El Mirage, about 10 miles north of Adelanto, where they found five bodies, a count that would rise to six with a subsequent discovery.
Video footage from the scene showed a vehicle pierced by bullets, and though authorities have yet to outline motives or suspects, the presence of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Specialized Investigations Division signals the weight of homicide. KTLA's coverage revealed evidence markers littered among multiple bloodied bodies, some displaying signs of having been burned, and amid this carnage, two vehicles—one dark SUV with windows shattered by gunfire—were located in the brush.
A sheriff's spokesperson, Mara Rodriguez, told KABC, "We have not confirmed the sex or the age of any of the decedents at this point."
