Chaos erupted on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks early Friday morning, leaving one driver critically wounded and causing extensive traffic delays as authorities shut down the northbound lanes to investigate a shooting. According to CBS Los Angeles, the incident, initially reported as a crash near Burbank Boulevard around 5:00 a.m., quickly escalated into a full-blown crime scene investigation.
Traffic snared for miles as investigators worked to piece together the morning's violent events. Some lanes managed to momentarily reopen around 9:00 a.m. to allow to barely trickle past but were closed again as the investigation intensified. FOX LA provided aerial footage showing a line of cars backed up to the 118 Freeway, while the voice of radio traffic reports echoed advisories for drivers to seek alternative routes.
The victim, whose identity remains withheld, was transported to the hospital in what was described as a critical condition. The vehicle involved had collided with the center median and bore the scars of violence, riddled with bullet holes, confirmed the California Highway Patrol. No suspects have been identified, and the circumstances preceding the gunfire are shrouded in uncertainty.
