Emergency response teams, including South Hampton police and fire departments, alongside their counterparts from Amesbury, were summoned to the scene shortly after the incident was reported after 4:30 p.m, they discovered that by the time they arrived, good Samaritans were attempting to rescue the driver from the sinking vehicle, according to information by NBC Boston. Despite their swift intervention and the involvement of divers navigating the treacherous currents, the rescue turned grim – the driver was extracted from the car yet later pronounced dead at Exeter Hospital.
The identity of the victim, a South Hampton resident, remains unreleased, authorities await the somber task of notifying the next of kin before making further disclosures.
