A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run accident on SR-125 in Spring Valley on New Year's Eve, sparking a search for the driver who fled the scene. California Highway Patrol responded to the incident near Jamacha Road at around 8 p.m., as FOX 5 San Diego reported.
The crash led to a temporary closure of one lane on southbound SR-125 north of Jamacha Road, disrupting New Year’s Eve traffic as crews attended to the aftermath. Caltrans San Diego initially reported via X post that one right lane was blocked due to the collision. Authorities worked quickly to attempt to clear up the incident, but the gravity of the occasion necessitated a thorough investigation.
Subsequent updates increased the blocked lanes to two, as shared by Caltrans San Diego on their X feed. This additional lane closure compounded the delays motorists were experiencing on the highway.
By 9 a.m. on Monday, all lanes on SB SR-125 had been reopened, as confirmed in a final tweet from Caltrans San Diego. The lanes have since been fully restored to functionality. Law enforcement has not disclosed details on the suspect's vehicle or any information regarding their identity, who seek the public's assistance in the case.
Update: SB SR-125 north of Jamacha Rd, all lanes open.
