Dunwoody's local politics are schooling the kids on civic engagement this January. The City Council, in a move to get more community butts in seats, will be holding its upcoming meeting at Dunwoody High School (DHS). Set for January 22 at 6 p.m., students and residents are getting the proverbial hall pass to join the convo in the DHS auditorium.

In a savvy play to boost local participation, Council Member Catherine Lautenbacher stated, “In our first on-the-road experience, we want to make it easier for nearby residents to attend and participate,” The Youth City Council is running point on this one, having a hand not just in planning but also fully executing the event.

Valentina Cloitre, co-president of the Youth City Council, piped up about their mission: “With Monday’s meeting, we hope to encourage high school students to be involved with their local government,”

Social studies teacher Mike Berry, doubling as the club’s sponsor, is doing more than just preaching from a textbook."We all want our youth to grow up to be informed and engaged citizens, and I see this is a small step in that direction,”  he imparts.

Even the Dunwoody High Air Force JROTC is getting into the act, putting on a show of colors during the soirée. The Youth City Council broadcasts the affair, taking to social media and spreading flyers far and wide, all to get the word out about their role in civic stewardship.

For those looking to do some pre-meeting homework, the agenda will be up for grabs online shortly, check it out here and mark those calendars.
