Looking for a chill way to spend your weekend? Look no further, folks. Cleary Lake Regional Park is offering locals a chance to glide through winter wonderland, Scandinavian style. That's right, kicksledding—it's not just for the Nordic anymore. On February 10 from 2 to 3:30 PM, the Outdoor Recreation School is inviting wannabe sled jockeys to test their balance and speed on traditional kicksleds, which, for the uninitiated, are basically glorified chairs mounted on skis.
For just 6 bucks a head, you and your family can whisk around the park—assuming, of course, there's enough snow and ice to go around. If Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, and let's face it, she's as fickle as a cat on a hot tin roof, the park's got a backup plan. They're swapping sleds for hiking boots and ending the day gathered 'round a cozy campfire, complete with s'mores. That's right, emissaries of old man winter, nothing like a bit of marshmallow and chocolate to take the bite out of the cold, according to the Scott County, Minnesota.
Now, if you've got a little tyke raring to go, keep in mind that kids aged 11 and under can't fly solo—they need a registered adult to tag along. We guess the park is making sure everyone's playing it safe out there, and we can't blame them. Safety first, especially when you’re sailing across the ice at face-melting speeds—relatively speaking, that is.
Reservations are not just recommended, they're required, so pick up the phone and dial 763-559-6700 if you want to secure your spot. And don't worry about packing gear for your jaunt; the event is accommodating everyone from toddlers to adults, just bring your sense of adventure, and maybe a scarf, it’s still winter out there folks. For more information and to make your reservation, you can check out the park's announcement, as per Scott County, Minnesota.
