The fire rapidly spread through the structure before firefighters arrived and located a fully involved boat shack at the end of the pier. The building was said to have been unoccupied during the incident and fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries. Efforts from the Marin County Fire Department, Sonoma County Fire, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Tomales Volunteer Fire Company helped quell the flames by around 5:30 pm. However, crews stayed at the scene until 7:30 pm to ensure a complete mop-up, which SFGate noted in their coverage.
The cause of the calamity remains under investigation by the authorities, who are painstakingly sifting through the char and rubble to piece together the narrative of this unfortunate event. Nick's Cove, a name much beloved by the locals and visitors alike, now has to contend with the complete loss of an establishment that bore its character in its very timber and offered remembrance of Marin County's waterside heritage.
