Sixteen people, including six children, have been displaced from their North Attleboro home after a blaze ravaged a multi-family residence early Saturday morning. According to Boston 25 News, the fire broke out on Park Street, with firefighters called to the scene to confront a smoke-engulfed third floor.
The North Attleboro Fire Department responded to the inferno, deploying hose lines into the chaos where the fire was found in one of the third-floor bedrooms. Crews were quick to the task, managing to safeguard a congregation of 10 adults and six children, who had already fled the home before help arrived. In a statement obtained by NBC Boston, Fire Chief Christopher Coleman underscored the critical nature of having a fully staffed fire department during such emergencies."
Amidst the operation, one person was taken to a hospital for treatment due to injuries sustained. Fortunately, no further injuries were reported. The first and second floors suffered significant water and smoke damage, leading officials to deem the house uninhabitable. With the American Red Cross's help, the dislodged community now seeks solace and shelter after the event's extensive devastation.
"Our aggressive response to this fire highlighted the importance of fire department staffing levels. By being fully staffed, we were able to conduct a coordinated attack that included us advancing hose lines, conducting searches and ventilating the building to ensure all occupants were safely evacuated," Chief Coleman said. Echoing the sentiments of their chief, the fire department credited their preparedness for preventing the flames from leaping voraciously to the attic, or even to nearby homes in the congested area.
While the origin of the fire remains under investigation by state officials and North Attleboro authorities, initial reports suggest the incident does not carry the hallmark of suspicion. The North Attleboro community rallies around those affected, as firefighters and aid organizations work assiduously to reconcile the aftermath of the calamity that unfolded in the heart of their town.
