
Firefighters battled a fierce blaze in Westlake on Sunday, successfully extinguishing the fire that tore through an abandoned fourplex. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire ignited at 1539 W Cambria St and was snuffed out in less than an hour by 54 firefighters from multiple stations. Their rapid response brought the situation under control by 9:52 a.m.
Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered flames bursting through the roof of the two-story residential building, notably constructed in 1900 and amassing an area of 8,988 square feet. Teams managed to access and confine the fire, thwarting any spread to neighboring establishments. There were no injuries reported among both civilians and firefighting personnel. The cause of this fire is currently being investigated, looking to uncover how such an event came to pass in the seemingly quiet forenoon of a Sunday.
The structure, which had been abandoned, drew a significant response from multiple LAFD units, including engine companies, battalion commanders, and rescue ambulances. As per the release, the array of personnel dispatched to tackle the blaze incorporated the use of specialized equipment such as Squad 21 and tactical teams like T10 and T11.
