The city is taking a day off in honor of Martin Luther King Day. Various municipal offices and services will be hitting the pause button this coming Monday, January 15. Emergency services, for one, will keep running without a hiccup, making sure the city stays safe while many take a moment to remember the civil rights icon, according to the City of Fort Worth.
An arrangement that's sure to please those inclined to care less for closure announcements and more for uninterrupted routines, there are no changes expected in solid waste collection. Your trash will disappear and recycling bins will get emptied just like any old regular day. Yard waste and bulk collection will also stick to the plan. For any stray queries, or if the unexpected occurs, citizens can still reach out to the Solid Waste Services at 817-392-1234. And if something more pressing bubbles up, the Water Department's 24-hour call center is on standby at 817-392-4477.
Both the North Animal Campus and the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center, alongside all Fort Worth Public Library locations, are taking a breather on the holiday. But fret not, as both entities are set to spring back into usual operation on Tuesday, January 16. The same goes for the Hulen and Alliance PetSmart Adoption Centers, just in case you were planning a Monday visit to fetch a new furry friend.
All community centers, the Haws Athletic Center, and the beloved Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge are among the spots signing off for the day. Likewise, municipal golf courses are taking a swing at the day off, too. But all of these are teed up to open per usual come Tuesday.
If you're relying on public transit, factor in that Trinity Metro is shifting to a modified schedule. The details of these adjustments haven’t been left in the dark — travelers can find the full rundown of the changes on the Trinity Metro website. So, while Fort Worth powers down some of its services to honor the legacy of Dr. King, it seems the city's doing its best to keep disruptions to the daily grind at a minimum.
