Early Sunday morning, a 37-year-old man was shot by a Fort Worth police officer after he was alleged to have robbed a vape shop and then attacked police with a crowbar. The incident, which took place at a business in the 6400 block of McCart Avenue, began around 4 a.m. and ended in a vacant lot where the suspect was found hiding, as reported by FOX 4 News.

Fleeing the scene on foot after reportedly breaking the glass and stealing from the shop, the suspect, described as a black man wearing a face mask and armed with a crowbar, led officers on a chase. A statement by Fort Worth police described how the man was located in a residential backyard on Fargo Court. After the suspect attacked an officer with the crowbar, the police responded by shooting the suspect in the leg, NBC DFW reported.

The injured suspect, identified as Walker Cadd, was then provided with life-saving aid and taken to a hospital in stable condition. He now faces charges of theft and attempting to take an officer's weapon. The officer involved has been placed on leave according to the standard protocol while the case is being further investigated by the Fort Worth Police Department Major Case Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.

Residents in the area where the confrontation took place expressed their shock at the violent events. "We’ve been here for decades and this is the first time something's happened," Alheli Torres, a longtime inhabitant of the neighborhood said. "It was really scary. I never experienced something like that and it was scary to be honest." Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes briefly addressed the incident, confirming the ongoing nature of the investigation, as per FOX 4 News.
