In a routine response escalated by prior offenses, Foster City Police Department officers were dispatched earlier this evening following a shoplifting report at the local Safeway, according to an announcement made on their Facebook page. The suspect, accused of brazenly attempting to leave the store with a cart brimming with unpaid merchandise, was apprehended in the parking lot where the situation took a turn.
Digging deeper into the suspect’s background during the incident, law enforcement discovered an outstanding arrest warrant tied to a previous shoplifting case. To compound the individual's legal woes, the discovered presence of illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia added further charges to the slate. In light of the findings, the suspect was promptly arrested.
The police department's swift action culminated in the suspect being booked at a county facility.
