
Tragedy struck on a late Tuesday night in Fredericksburg when a deadly robbery left 48-year-old Arthur Cortez dead. Following a rapid and community-assisted investigation, police have arrested 21-year-old Awes Singko Rapet in connection to the crime. Fredericksburg Police took Rapet into custody late Wednesday night at a local motel, after detecting his whereabouts thanks to a community tip off.
Authorities zeroed in on the suspect's location and executed both an arrest and a search warrant at 11:46 p.m, as reported by FOX San Antonio. Rapet's capture was a product of collective vigilance. The Fredericksburg Police Department expressed gratitude for the community assistance which they described as pivotal in the swift apprehension.
The heinous act occurred at the Kwik Chek convenience store where Rapet, donning a white skull mask, fired the homicide weapon and demanded the cashier to hand over money. The MSN reported that Cortez, a local resident, was struck fatally during this armed robbery, despite the cashier remaining unharmed in the tragic sequence of events.
Following the police's prompt response to a 911 call, Rapet now faces a capital murder charge, with potential sentences including death, life imprisonment, or life imprisonment without parole. He is being held at the Gillespie County Jail on no bond. The recovery of the homicide weapon from the motel further solidifies the case against him, indicating the close of a chapter that has forever altered the Fredericksburg community.
