Georgians are catching a break at the pumps, as gas prices take a dip in keeping with the recent temperature drop across the state. Drivers are now finding relief with the average price of $2.97 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, a notable decrease from just last week, Atlanta News First reported.
As the hustle of the holiday season fades, a lull in the rush to gas stations is contributing to the overall decline; Montrae Waiters, a spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, said "Now that the holiday season is in our rearview mirror, fewer Georgians are filling up at the pump," and the cost to fill a standard 15-gallon tank has dropped to an average of $44.55 which means motorists are now paying $1.35 less than they were a month ago, according to information obtained by Cobb County Courier.
Breaking down the numbers further, the priciest averages are seen in Savannah at $3.12, while on the other end of the spectrum, Catoosa-Dade-Walker enjoys the lowest metro market rates at $2.82. Meanwhile, Cobb County residents are paying slightly above the state average, with a gallon of regular unleaded going for $2.98, and savvy consumers continue to hunt down bargains through comparison shopping and resources like GasBuddy.com.
The broader national scene mirrors Georgia's downward trend, with the AAA report highlighting a national average that's slipped by 4 cents down to $3.07, coupled with a plummet in demand from 9.17 to 7.95 million barrels per day and a surge in gasoline stocks by 10.9 million barrels now totaling 237 million barrels, despite rising oil prices playing spoilsport to a steeper price drop, this report from the Cobb County Courier emphasizes that if gas demand stays weak, prices have nowhere to go but down.
