With an onslaught of potentially disruptive weather set to hit on Tuesday, some districts have decided that safety comes first, announcing school closings and delays today.
According to Atlanta News First, a string of announcements saw Baldwin County Schools opting for a virtual learning day, while Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gordon, Heard, and Union City schools are all hitting the snooze button for a two-hour delay. Meanwhile, Banks, Bremen City, Burke, Butts, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Griffin-Spalding, Habersham, Jasper, Liberty, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, and Troup County schools are taking no chances, shutting down completely to avoid the brunt of the storm's wrath.
Adding to the cascade of cautions, WSB-TV reports closures across Chattooga, Hart, Madison, Pike, Putnam County Charter School System, Stephens, Thomaston-Upson, and White counties. Not to be left out in the rain, Dawson and Meriwether counties also resort to virtual classrooms to ride out the storm.
Commuters are advised to prepare for a challenging journey on Tuesday morning. Weather Team 2's meteorologist Brian Monahan warns of a high risk of heavy rain, flooding, and powerful wind gusts, particularly south of Interstate 20. Amidst such foreboding forecasts, families and individuals are encouraged to stay informed and prioritize safety, checking the latest updates on school statuses and storm tracking before stepping out.
