A dramatic river rescue unfolded late Monday afternoon when a good Samaritan came to the aid of a driver whose truck had careened into the icy embrace of the Crow River in Rogers, Minnesota. According to CBS News Minnesota, the 46-year-old man behind the wheel lost control of his Chevrolet box truck on Highway 101, struck a guardrail, and ended up submerged in the frigid waterway.
The good Samaritan's timely intervention allowed the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, to escape from the potential death trap after the truck first hit the right guardrail and a sign, then shot across the road and smashed into the left guardrail before launching into the river, and as KSTP News reported, aerial footage captured the scene as crews labored in the biting cold to retrieve the wrecked vehicle from the water.
The unidentified driver, who was taken to the hospital, thankfully suffered only minor injuries in the ordeal. The Minnesota State Patrol is currently piecing together the events that led to the accident, investigating how the driver lost control of the truck on the stretch of road near County Road 36.
While the incident remains under scrutiny and officials work to determine the exact cause of the crash, the quick thinking and brave actions of the good Samaritan – who has not been publicly named – showcases the remarkable impact a single person can have in the face of sudden peril, bringing light to an otherwise dark and chilly Minnesota winter day.
