A Gordon County man, already on probation for a prior burglary conviction, has been arrested after he allegedly planted an explosive device. According to WSB-TV, the suspect, identified as Dillon Wayne Long, is facing multiple charges including the manufacture and possession of an explosive device.
The ordeal began on January 11 when deputies responded to a domestic violence call. A woman reported that her partner, Long, had assaulted her. The authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, but the man had fled the scene. Nearly nine miles away from the home where the assault took place, deputies later found a troubling discovery on Pleasant Hill Road – an explosive device.
The FOX 5 Atlanta report indicates the Floyd County bomb squad was called in and successfully defused the device without incident. Subsequent investigations linked the device to Long, who, upon his return to Gordon County, was apprehended during a traffic stop on US Highway 41 South on January 18.
Alongside explosive-related offenses, Long faces charges of battery/family violence, third-degree cruelty to children, and a violation of his probation. Currently, Long is detained in the Gordon County Jail. His criminal history includes a 2019 burglary for which he was on probation at the time of these most recent incidents.
