Gov. Greg Abbott, accompanied by a Texas-bound delegation, has been busy bolstering ties with top executives from India's leading tech firms in Mumbai, intensifying the State of Texas economic and technological collaborations. In a series of high-powered meets, Abbott discussed potential growth and investment opportunities with influential companies such as Infosys, Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Wipro, advocating for Texas' thriving business climate and diverse workforce.

"Both the people of Texas, and India seek to drive the future of the world through innovation, economic might, and expanded prosperity for the next generation," Abbott asserted, according to a release on the governor's official website. Abbott's visit to Mumbai is the first leg of an economic development mission seeking to tap into India's burgeoning technology sector, where Texas already hosts significant Indian investments.

The governor's itinerary was packed, beginning with Infosys, where Executive Vice President Rajesh Varrier and Abbott revisited the partnership progression since Abbott's 2018 trip. Next, meetings with Reliance Industries centered on expanding trade in oil and natural gas, with an acknowledgment of Texas as America's energy capital. "By meeting with these corporate leaders in Mumbai today, Texas is strengthening our relationship with India so that we can ensure greater prosperity for the next generation," Abbott said in his announcement.

Abbott's exchange with TCS at Bombay House highlighted Texas' potential in manufacturing and aerospace, while conversations at Wipro delved into partnerships in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud technology. Furthermore, his engagement with Bollywood stakeholders at a cultural dinner pointed to a shared interest in film as a medium for showcasing cultural heritage. Notably, Abbott's engagements underscore how, Texas positions itself as a destination for Indian foreign direct investments, which, over the past decade, have contributed a staggering $1.4 billion and generated more than 10,300 jobs in the state.

Overall, Texas' trade relations with India seem to be on a robust trajectory, with bilateral trade reaching $20.4 billion in 2022, and with Texas accounting for 28 percent of all U.S. exports to India. The governor's outreach to the Indian market comes as no surprise, seeing that India ranks as the ninth nation for foreign direct investment projects in Texas. The governor's ongoing trip, sponsored by the Texas Economic Development Corporation, underscores the organization's commitment to promoting Texas as a prime business hub ready for future challenges and opportunities.
