A Grayson resident is facing charges for masterminding a multimillion-dollar insurance scam. According to Gwinnett Daily Post, Jose Martinez, 56, allegedly cooked the books to dupe Liberty Mutual Insurance out of a hefty $9.2 million.
Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King revealed that the accused submitted falsified documents, including a self-audit form bearing his company's 2016 corporate income tax return information. Reporting by the WSBTV outlines how Martinez tampered with the company's profit numbers and employee wages reported.
King articulated, "Mr. Martinez deceived the insurance company by altering the revenue generated by the company and the amount owed to his employees." This act of deception was done, ostensibly, to shroud his firm's actual workers' compensation obligations, which in turn slashed the insurance costs Martinez was expected to pony up.
"The suspect's actions defrauded Liberty Mutual of more than $9,250,000 in premiums which should have been paid for the coverage liabilities received," claimed King, as the reported profits, tinkered with deliberately were aimed at reducing insurance premiums. Authorities laid it all bare when announcing Martinez's arrest on December 5 2023, following the issuance of warrants on December 1st.
