The Spalding County community gathered in a somber vigil for Sgt. Marc McIntyre, a deputy killed in the line of duty, with his life and service at the forefront of remembrances. During the emotional event, Spalding County Sheriff Daryl Dix stated "It's a devastating loss, not just for our agency, but for this community," as was recounted by 11Alive.
The vigil brought together not only law enforcement personnel and friends but also those he had impacted in his role as a detention officer, some of whom had past incarcerations in the same jail where he served. Dix explained further in his soul-stirring tribute. In an extension of community support local business owner Danielle Stamps of Downtown Nutrition launched a special "police tea" initiative with $2 from each sale benefitting McIntyre's family according to a report by Atlanta News First. In four short hours, the overwhelming local response saw 83 teas sold.
McIntyre, an army veteran of considerable standing, was described as profoundly positive by Shannon Pritchett, who reminisced about his influence, saying, "He made people believe in themselves," with the kind of exemplary character that made him a model figure, his legacy was further celebrated by Sheriff Dix who mused “He was just positive and uplifting.” in statements captured by Atlanta News First.
For further fundraising activities led by Flynn Von Roretz who told 11Alive he was planning a fundraiser to benefit McIntyre's fiance.
