A 52-year-old Hopkinton man, Stephen Murphy, was taken into police custody after his white van slammed into two homes on Grove Street, causing significant damage. According to CBS News Boston, the incident occurred just before 3 p.m. Thursday, after which Murphy attempted to flee the scene.

Responding to the scene, Hopkinton police apprehended Murphy, who now faces multiple charges including operating under the influence of liquor, second offense, and driving to endanger. Murphy is also charged with leaving the scene of a crash, NBC Boston reports.

While there were no physical injuries reported, the structural damage to one of the houses was severe, particularly to a load-bearing wall. Firefighters were dispatched to shore up the compromised structure, as the family residing there has now been displaced and staying with relatives.

"We're fortunate that no one was hurt in this incident," said Hopkinton Fire Chief Gary Daugherty, according to statements obtained by local authorities. Murphy is slated for arraignment in Framingham District Court on Friday.
