Houston is on high alert as police scour the Eastex-Jensen neighborhood for two men linked to a botched robbery that erupted in gunfire late Saturday night. The Houston Police Department spokesperson John Cannon revealed the incident broke out around 12:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of Caplin St. where three assailants ambushed a man stepping out of his vehicle, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
According to Cannon, a resident inside, hearing a commotion, noticed a relative being held at gunpoint and prompted another inside to call for help, eventually opening fire on the suspects. Amidst the chaos and gunfire exchanged between the suspects and the armed occupants, two of the alleged robbers retreated, escaping in a white SUV, while their accomplice—found with gunshot wounds by a police dog—was arrested just houses away from the scene, KTRK detailed.
Paramedics, arriving as officers canvassed for the other two perpetrators, rushed the injured suspect to the hospital where his condition was stabilized, informed Houston Chronicle. Meanwhile, an investigation is ongoing, and Houston Police are urging anyone with information on the outstanding suspects to contact Crimestoppers at 713-222-8477 with the potential for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
"Those suspects then returned fire and fled the scene. Shortly after that, police units arrived and were able to locate one of the suspects in a nearby neighborhood. He had injuries, gunshot wounds to the legs and one to the arm," Lt. T. Trometer told KTRK. No other injuries were reported inside the targeted home. The ABC13 Neighborhood Safety Tracker reported a decline in area robberies until an uptick was noted in the past year—from 109 to 121 incidents.
The third suspect who fled on foot trying to leave, his whereabouts along with the other accomplice, remain elusive to the Houston Police Department. They are analyzing evidence and following leads to apprehend the individuals responsible for the attempted home invasion.
